The railway from Valence to Moirans is a 78 km long railway line in southeastern France. It was built by the PLM and opened on 9 May 1864 to provide a link between Valence and Grenoble. The line is currently only a single track line (originally a double track) but plans exist to electrify it and return it to double track by 2013.[2]
In 2011, Réseau Ferré de France announced an €80m contract award to electrify the line from Valence on Paris-Marseille line to Moirans on the Lyon-Grenoble line. A connection to the LGV Méditerranée will also be made allowing high-speed services from points south to Grenoble. Construction is expected to start in January 2013 and take about nine months[3].
